Welcome to the 2016 Banff Marathon in Banff, Alberta!

2016 Banff Marathon in Banff, AlbertaThe Banff Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K is one of the planet’s most incredible and beautiful running experiences, all in Canada’s first National Park. Starting in the picturesque village of Banff, participants travel through a series of incredible natural, wildlife, and historical stages as they pass by the serene Vermilion Lakes and journey along the Bow Valley Parkway surrounded by stunning mountain vistas – fully closed to traffic. Although the run takes place in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, the course is not too grueling with a slightly rolling and relatively flat terrain. The return trek travels alongside the Bow River and over Banff’s famous bridges finishing to cheering crowds in Banff’s downtown Central Park. This is your chance to run in the only marathon in North America that is fully contained within the boundaries of a National Park, Canada’s very first National Park. The maximum number of participants is limited to 1500 due to the uniqueness of the setting as a protected area and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Vision of the Banff Marathon is to offer a professional, safe, and world-class experience for the participant, sponsor, volunteer, and spectator – all in a race venue carefully selected to showcase the stunning beauty of the area. The event is designed so that athletes of all abilities can be part of a great experience and feel the rush that achieving a goal can give. The very nature of running encourages a healthy, active lifestyle that is environmentally friendly promoting “people powered” means of transportation. This marathon will have a festival atmosphere and will leave no impact on the race site.
